Stompin’ Dave and His Bluegrass Band makes its debut in Dorset at Dorchester Corn Exchange on Wednesday 14th August. Bridport based Stompin’ Dave who’s previously been described as "One of the world’s greatest performers" by Maverick Magazine will be fresh back from a week long tour of Ireland. Dave winner of the FOAOTMAD old-time banjo competition 2013 and 2011 has now teamed up with the cream of London’s vibrant bluegrass scene. He will be bringing his new bluegrass band to the area for the first time. The band features Dave on vocals, five-string banjo, and flatfoot dancing, and members of top London hoedown bands Cut A Shine and Kidnap Alice including Joe Buirski on double bass, banjo and voice, Jerry Bloom on fiddle, and also Ally McAuley on guitar and voice. Over recent years Joe and Jerry have performed across the UK and beyond including Glastonbury Festival, The Big Chill, The Green Man, Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival and the National Theatre Alternative Village Fete.

Stompin’ Dave and His Bluegrass band plays classic bluegrass and hillbilly material so expect exciting interpretations of music by artists such as Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers, Reno and Smiley, Grandpa Jones and The Maddox’s Brother’s and Rose. The new band was formed during a late night campfire jam session following Dave’s appearance at Didmarton Bluegrass Festival last year. The group then made it’s festival debut at the legendary Passing Clouds venue in Dalston, London. Then the group played in front of hundreds of revellers at Fire In The Mountain Festival, near Aberystwyth, Wales. You can watch a video clip of this performance via www.stompindave.com. Later this summer the band is due to appear at two major events Bestival on The Isle Of Wight where Fatboy Slim, Snoop Dogg and Elton John will also be appearing, and The Secret Garden Party, Cambridgeshire where the headline act is Faithless.
